Illumin8 Lights stock up with Trime’s LED lights

THE site lighting specialists, Illumin8 Lights, are gearing up for a busy summer season, with the purchase of another fleet of X-ECO LED lighting towers supplied by the Cambridgeshire company, Trime UK Limited.

The order was placed at the recent Executive Hire Show and has been valued in excess of £500k.

Illumin8’s hire fleet is now made up of over four hundred Trime lighting sets and their complete fleet is entirely composed of Trime’s range of lighting towers.

Neil Fenwick, founder and Managing Director of Illumin8, said: "Our order book for the forthcoming season is already filling up, so the need to increase our fleet of safe, bright and sustainable lighting was an overriding priority.”

“The X-ECO LED has become the mainstay of our rental fleet, with many clients asking for this set by name. Therefore, it became an easy decision to invest further in the X-ECO LED."

The X-ECO LED include, as standard, several safety and environmental features which have propelled this product to become a market leader.

Its instant light and the built-in auto start/stop light sensor is a popular feature and with safety heightened by the X-ECO AMOSS safety system, users can be assured of secure, bright lighting at all times.

The energy saving LED lamps have a guaranteed lifetime of up to 2000 hours.

Illumin8 have added an advanced tracking system to their X-ECO LED sets. They can see, via a connected device, the actual location of each unit and supervise how it is performing.

This enables an engineer to complete basic checks such as low oil, low fuel and low battery levels. The engineer will then report this information back to the operator for rectification before the set becomes inoperable. This saves time and helps to keep the project running by reducing any potential downtime.

Illumin8 Limited was founded in 2015; the company provides a bespoke service hiring mobile tower lights to both the event and industrial markets. The Illumin8 management team combine over 40 years’ experience within the lighting industry. The company is based in Essex and delivers nationwide.

Trime UK Limited has swiftly developed into the market leader in the supply of engine driven LED lighting sets. They have over 50 years of experience in the development and marketing of environmentally sustainable lighting sets for the construction and rental markets. Trime UK is headquartered in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire; their manufacturing plant is based near Milan, Italy.

Hire firm raises £4.5m investment from Mercia's EV Growth II fund

QUICK Reach Powered Access, a fast-growing national equipment hire business, has secured a £4.5million equity investment from Mercia Fund Managers.

The investment, which is the second from Mercia's £45.1million EV Growth II fund, will allow the Manchester-based company to double its fleet of powered access equipment and continue its nationwide growth.

Founded in 2014 by brothers John and David Barton, who have a background in the equipment hire industry, Quick Reach now has depots in Manchester, Birmingham, Doncaster, East London and Wishaw in Scotland, and a fleet of over 1,000 units ranging from large telehandlers to smaller scissor lifts.

Jill Williams, Investment Director for Mercia's EV Growth II, said: "Quick Reach has become a well-established provider of powered access equipment in a very short period of time.

"Its success has been underpinned by solid relationships with customers and suppliers and the industry experience of John and David. This funding will allow them to pursue their ambitious growth plans."

The company which now employs 36 staff, has grown rapidly, achieving average annual sales growth of 77% over the past three years. The deal will give Mercia a minority stake in the business and provide investment for growth.

Wayne Thomas, who leads the EV Growth II team, said: "Quick Reach is exactly the sort of innovative and ambitious SME that EV Growth II seeks to invest in. This is our second investment from EV Growth II, and we have several more deals in process which we expect to complete over the next few months. This demonstrates the ongoing demand from good quality businesses seeking buyout funding and development capital of up to £5million."

David Barton of Quick Reach said: "At Quick Reach we are committed to delivering the very best service and customer experience in our industry sector. With further investment in new equipment, and a more extensive distribution infrastructure, we are well positioned for further growth."

The EV Growth II fund makes investments of up to £5.0million in established and ambitious SMEs, looking to grow, with a focus on management buy-outs and development capital. The fund completed its first deal in July 2018 with a £4.0million investment in the parking aggregator site ParkCloud.

Investec in Leeds provided fundraising advice to the company. Dow Schofield Watts Transaction Services provided financial due diligence to Mercia while Craig Scott of Hill Dickinson provided legal advice.

Morris Site Machinery expand operation and confirm i54 deal

MORRIS Site Machinery has agreed to acquire a flagship site adjacent to Jaguar Land Rover at the i54 Technology-based Business Park just minutes from the M6 in Wolverhampton.

The landmark site will provide over 60,000 square foot of manufacturing and office space for Morris Site Machinery to relocate from its current site just three miles away at Four Ashes, into purpose-built premises at i54.

The site machinery business is renowned for its mobile lighting towers, generators, welders, pumps and pressure washers which it sells worldwide.

Chris Morris, CEO of Morris Site Machinery, said: “This marks an exciting milestone in our expansion plans for the business, securing such a prime location in terms of profile and geography.

"With our sales and service hubs and customers across the UK, this sought-after site is an ideal central location offering ease of access to the country’s motorway network."

Recent years have seen significant growth in its success overseas, recognised by The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 which ranks Britain’s mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales.

For the second year running, Morris Site Machinery has been hailed within the league table which has featured star alumni such as Aston Martin.

Chris added: “The past few years have seen us bring numerous new product innovations to the market and this strategic move allows us to future-proof and continue to expand our site machinery operation.

“It feels particularly apposite investing in i54 as our family-run business, based nearby in Shrewsbury, is this year marking its 150th year of successful trading and investment here in the Midlands."

Planning has been submitted for the development and the deal was negotiated with Bulleys on behalf of Staffordshire County Council and City of Wolverhampton Council.

Staffordshire County Council’s economic growth leader Mark Winnington said: “Morris Site Machinery has seen significant expansion in recent years with growing global sales and we are pleased the company has chosen i54 South Staffordshire as its new base.

“This business is the perfect fit for i54 South Staffordshire – a Midlands engineering and manufacturing firm that is clearly going from strength to strength.

"We are sure the prime positioning of the site and accessibility onto the motorway network will support future growth.

“This is another success story for i54 and again demonstrates our hard work as a council partnership has paid off.”

Councillor John Reynolds, City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: “We are delighted Morris Site Machinery has chosen i54 as its new home to expand their thriving business.

“Our joint investment in i54 has already secured hundreds of millions of pounds of further investment and brought thousands of jobs to the area and this latest announcement means further investment in our city and, most importantly, more jobs.

“It again illustrates that demand is high for more accommodation from potential investors in a number of sectors, which is why recently securing planning permission for the western extension of i54 will enable us to facilitate these requests and benefit local residents and businesses.”

VIDEO: New Van Vault range tackles tool theft and achieves police standard

AS PART of its drive to tackle tool theft crime, Van Vault, the originators of in-vehicle secure storage, has launched a market leading new product range.

Last year saw around 280,000 tool theft crimes across the UK. With the average value of tools left in tradespeople’s vans costing £2,880, Van Vault understands the importance of helping protect tools and deter thieves with effective secure storage solutions.

With a break-in taking as little as 10 seconds, the new range has introduced key enhancements, which will be fundamental in making it much harder to steal valuable power tools and equipment.

Deborah Hunt, Van Vault Marketing Manager, said: “Tool theft is a massive issue facing tradespeople today and it’s on the rise. One in three tradespeople have had tools stolen.

“With our new range, we have reacted to what customers really want: the best security, functionality and quality, which gives them peace of mind.”

The new product launch follows 18 months of development work and features eight new products offering advanced protection, including the traditional box style containers and the easy to use drawer slides, which are unique to the Van Vault brand.

Not only has the product been upgraded, it has also been independently tested and certified by Sold Secure, an independent test house for security products owned by the Master Locksmith Association. All eight Van Vaults were subjected to six different levels of rigorous attack by trained professionals and were all found to be impenetrable.

Van Vault is also the first vehicle storage product on the market to be accredited by Secured by Design - the UK’s Police approved standard. Secured by Design promotes products which prevent crime and it is the only form of police approval for UK products.

All of the key areas of attack have been strengthened including a cross-bar reinforced lid which is next to impossible to prise open. A new highly-effective VaultLock™ locking system has been introduced which sits deep within the body of the box shielded by a hardened steel plate, protecting from drilling, picking and cutting.

The products also now come with an anti-theft fixing kit to ensure they can be properly mounted to the vehicle floor.

Deborah added: “The upgraded vehicle range underwent considerable research and rigorous testing, to ensure it provided customers with a product that helps secure tools and makes the working day of a tradesperson easier.”

Following strong customer demand, Van Vault has also improved its storage space and functionality with the new range, introducing a wide mouth drop front to the storage containers, which provides greater access and visibility of the contents inside.

A recessed lock also protects the key from damage, when left in the lock and an easy-lift gas strut through the body of the box, ensures a soft open and close lid action and maximises storage space.

Celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, Van Vault is a UK-leading brand for storing and securing tools in vehicles. Its range is available in a variety of sizes, each designed for use in different types of vehicles.

Does ‘Generation Z’ provide the perfect apprentices?

WHEN your company’s workload begins to pile up and you need an extra pair of hands on a project, there are a few avenues you can take.

You can hire a freelancer, get in touch with a contractor, or spend every waking moment working on things yourself – the latter by the way is not a great option.

Recently, though, more and more businesses are taking advantage of an underestimated option: apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for businesses to gain productive, enthusiastic workers while also investing in developing skilled employees.

As well as having the financial benefit of low-staff costs, they provide a great source of energy and fresh ideas. The government is also in full support, as the Apprenticeship Levy helps businesses fund apprentices with the aim of supporting quality training with employers at the centre.

If you’re looking to hire an apprentice, Generation Z, or Gen Z, is your hunting ground; they make up the vast majority of apprenticeships candidates today. Don’t be fooled into thinking they spend all their time glued to their phones, though: Gen Z is a vein of untapped potential.

What is Gen Z?

People often lump everyone under thirty in a category called ‘Millennials’ but this isn’t technically correct.

Millennials are categorised as those born between 1981 and 1994, making them 22-37 years of age today. This makes Gen Z – those born after 1995 – the workforce of tomorrow, so it’s important you know who they are and what drives them.

The benefits of hiring a Gen Z apprentice

1. They’re tech savvy

Whereas Millennials grew up in the digital age, Gen Z’ers were born into it. And while it might be tempting for some to bellyache about them being glued to their smartphones, Gen Z’s technophilia comes with a useful side-effect: they can easily wrap their heads around new technology.

For industries that are heavily rooted in computing or digital technologies, Gen Z apprentices are able to integrate into their role effortlessly.

So, whereas Brian from Accounting may not like the new operating system, a Gen Z apprentice will learn it inside out.

2. They’re masters of multitasking

When kids have grown up using streaming a YouTube tutorial as they Facetime a friend while adding shopping to their virtual basket, is it any surprise that they are skilled at multitasking? Whether they are posting, commenting or swiping, ‘Gen Z’ers’ have adapted to using multiple platforms simultaneously.

This ingrained skill is adaptable to almost any work environment, meaning you’ll have no trouble putting this to good use. This can be as simple as taking detailed minutes in a meeting or as complex as cross-platform data entry.

3. They have a short attention span (yes, that’s a good thing)

Gen Z’ers are constantly absorbing information, often in the blink of an eye. Spending their youth surrounded by apps such as Snapchat and Instagram has made receiving constant updates the norm, which has ultimately stunted their attention spans.

This has, however, given Gen Z’ers an advantage when it comes to absorbing information. As they’re accustomed to receiving a barrage of updates, Gen Z’ers have a knack for processing information faster than other generations and are highly adaptable to change, meaning they can absorb the barrage of updates in Monday’s meeting even when no one else can.

4. They are entrepreneurial thinkers

Gen Z’ers have grown up in a world of innovation, full of developing technology and connected to every corner of the globe. They’ve seen what’s possible and want a piece of the action for themselves.

This has resulted in a generation of young adults who are starting their careers with an entrepreneurial head on their shoulders. They are full of ideas - use them before someone else does!

Take your business into the next generation

Gen Z has an advantage over older generations, simply due to how they have been raised in the digital age.

By being familiar with new technology, expert multitaskers and full of fresh ideas they are in a great position to become an asset to your business.

Plus, as they are quick at absorbing new information, they are ideal candidates for training courses to help them develop further.

Ryan Latham, senior marketing executive for 3B Training, has experienced firsthand how businesses can benefit from hiring a Gen Z apprentice.

He said: “As a former apprentice myself I am definitely on board with the system, it’s a great opportunity to get on the first step of your career ladder.

"We also have a Gen Z’er apprentice working under me in our marketing department and she has been highly beneficial. She is highly tech-savvy and has actually taught me a thing or two about newer social platforms.

"She can complete tasks almost twice as fast as I can and to a great standard, don’t write off the Gen Z generation!”

Precision made possible: introducing Festool’s new Cordless Oscillator

FESTOOL is expanding its range of cordless tools by adding the new Vecturo OSC 18 cordless oscillator for fitting and assembly work.

The Vecturo OSC 18 includes the innovative StarlockMax tool holder, enabling the user to quickly and conveniently change the tool blade, without the need for additional equipment.

Intelligent system accessories allow for dust-free work, precise cut-outs on the scribe mark and precisely guided plunge cuts.

In addition, the powerful, brushless EC-TEC motor and the large oscillation angle of 2°/2° achieves optimum working progress. Thanks to the clever design and the vibration isolation, the Vecturo OSC 18 makes ergonomic work possible.

Maximum flexibility in everyday work thanks to StarlockMax

The new Vecturo OSC 18 is equipped with the innovative StarlockMax tool holder system, which enables the user to change the required saw blade easily and in just a few seconds.

The patented Starlock tool-holder system covers three performance classes: Starlock, StarlockPlus and StarlockMax.

As the new Vecturo cordless oscillator comes with the StarlockMax tool holder, it falls under the performance class designed for heavy-duty applications.

Particularly practical for everyday use, StarlockMax can accommodate accessories from all of the Starlock performance classes. The new Vecturo therefore shows itself to be extremely flexible to use.

Intelligent system accessories

The versatile system accessories for the new cordless oscillator mean that this newcomer is the perfect all-rounder, and enables the user to work in a way that is healthy, comfortable and – at the same time – precise.

With the new dust extraction device, users can also start sawing without generating dust: this improves safety and provides a clear view of the work area.

The new positioning aid for precisely guided plunge cuts allows for accurate positioning on the marking, and simple orientation on the guide rail. The positioning aid is also equipped with a depth stop, for precisely setting the plunge depth.

These system accessories can be fitted onto the adapter easily and without the need for additional equipment – depending on requirements.

Technical data: Vecturo OSC 18 cordless oscillator

Battery voltage 18 V

Maximum power

The new Vecturo is especially suitable for heavy-duty applications. Thanks to the anti-vibration system, the housing and motor are completely decoupled. This reduction in vibrations and running noises leads to optimum comfort while working.

The powerful, brushless EC-TEC motor with variable speed control allows for a large oscillation angle of 2° to the left and 2° to the right, and therefore achieves optimum working progress.

In combination with the powerful and durable 18 V Li-ion compact battery pack, the cordless oscillator achieves maximum freedom of movement without any cables – even for heavy-duty applications.

The new Vecturo OSC 18 cordless oscillator will be available at specialist retailers from April 2019. Festool also offers full investment security for their new Vecturo OSC 18 thanks to Festool Service.

The free-of-charge service package guarantees direct, practical and comprehensive service for the tool throughout its entire service life.

Trime UK has bright February after the Executive Hire Show

FOLLOWING a most productive Executive Hire Show, the cheerful Trime UK sales and marketing teams arrived back at their Cambridgeshire base clutching an armful of orders placed throughout the two days of the show.

Paul Hay Trime UK’s Managing Director, said: “This year’s Executive Hire Show was the best ever for us. We took in excess of £3million worth of lighting tower orders on the stand during the two days.

“In addition we had in-depth discussions with a major tool hire firm who are stepping up their replacement programme over to our X-Splash Wash Bays and adding them to their new outlets.”

One of the single biggest orders came from the leading event and industrial lighting tower rental specialist, Illumin8 Lights Limited. Their managing director, Neil Fenwick, handed Trime an order for ECO LED sets, evaluated at over £1/2m. Another prime event hire firm, Energy Generator Hire, passed on two significant X-ECO LED orders, one for imminent delivery and the other confirmed for later in the year.

Glendun Plant Sales, the Northern Ireland based plant sales company, has been tirelessly active in promoting the X-ECO LED throughout the Country.

Consequently, Glendun’s Dermot Cunnie arrived at the Executive Hire Show ready to place a further four orders for X-ECO units for distribution to his clients. Glendun Plant Sales is based in Dungannon and is a dealer and distributor of a wide range of plant and equipment

Travis Perkins advised Trime that they had two on-going programmes that will require X-Splash systems.

These will be for both their expanding tool hire operations and for replacing and upgrading their current wash bays. Trime conspicuously displayed their Green Apple award for the X-Splash and jubilantly told all interested people of its Green Champion accreditation.

Launched in 2007, Executive Hire Show is a national exhibition for the tools, equipment and plant hire industry. The show was held on 6th and 7th February 2019, at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.
